The SMART COAST AI SOLUTIONS 4.0 partners have met at PLOCAN headquarters to analyze progress and ideas connected to the projects AI-based solutions for maritime space management and enhancing sports logistics, efficiency & safety.
The project takes advantage of PLOCAN´s staff skills, its infrastructure and technical capabilities which includes among other an advanced coastal optical and thermal camera network with edge processing capabilities, an unmanned remote-control vessel and a 23 km2 large marine test bed. Additionally, the project counts with the support and collaboration of the Port Authorities of Las Palmas and Gijón in their role as “facilitating agents” providing their advice and facilities to carry out the validation of the planned pilot tests.
The SMART COAST AI SOLUTIONS 4.0 project meeting was inaugurated by the Director of the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Mr Javier Franco, the Councillor for Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria Mr Raul Garcia Brink and the PLOCAN Director Dr Jose Joaquín Hernandez Brito.
Representatives of several port institutions, maritime security agencies and organizations with responsibility in elaboration of maritime policies and control of fisheries participated at the meeting with the aim of presenting and discussing the project progress and milestones achieved to date, as well as setting new objectives and challenges to be addressed in the near future within the project framework. The gathering brought together representatives from Puertos del Estado, the Port Authorities of Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Gijón, representatives of the Ports of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Puertos de Canarias.
And also representatives from the Directorate General of the Spanish Merchant Marine, of the Spanish Coastguard Agency SASEMAR, the Catalonia Directorate General of Maritime Policy and Sustainable Fisheries, the Directorate General of Coastal and Maritime Space Management of the Canary Islands, the Ministry of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, the Maritime Authorities of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and CTIM (Image Technology Center of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
