QUALITAS has supplied a network of three CODAR SeaSonde High-Frequency (HF) radar stations for the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), marking a major milestone in the expansion of ocean observing capabilities along the East African coast. The HF radar network will provide real-time surface current, waves and directional visibility range measurement, supporting maritime safety, coastal management, and meteorological services in Tanzania.
The solution goes beyond conventional coastal monitoring: the network integrates AIMI, QUALITAS Artificial Intelligence platform for maritime intelligence, together with a control center fully embedded in TMA’s operational environment. This combination will give TMA operators a unified, AI-enhanced view of coastal ocean conditions, enabling faster and better-informed decision-making. Full deployment of the network is planned for 2027.
As part of the project’s capacity-building programme, training for TMA operators and maintenance technicians was completed at QUALITAS’s Madrid facilities in March and April 2026, ensuring the local team is fully prepared to operate, maintain and exploit the HF radar network from day one.
